From Backyard to Champion
Getting a call takes more than landing on a good table. Pitmasters who walk consistently understand how to balance taste and tenderness. That’s what you’ll find here. These courses are designed to help you cut through the noise, avoid the mistakes I made early on and cook barbecue you’re proud to serve.
But more than that, by joining Competition BBQ Tips, you'll gain the confidence to compete head-to-head with seasoned teams, impress judges with consistency and finally turn your passion for barbecue into results that earn calls, trophies and respect.

Who Competition BBQ Tips Courses Are For

The Backyard Pitmaster
At home, your friends and family rave about your BBQ. They can’t get enough. But when you step into the competition arena, the judges don’t share the same excitement. It’s frustrating when what wins in the backyard doesn’t score on the table. These courses bridge that gap, teaching you how to adjust flavor, tenderness and presentation so judges reward your cook the way your family does.
The You Tube Graduate
You’ve watched hours of YouTube videos, maybe even tried a contest or two. You think you understand the process, but the calls just aren’t coming. That’s because real competition success requires more than random tips. It takes proven methods, strategy and repetition. In these courses, you’ll learn the exact steps that experienced pitmasters use to walk consistently, without the trial-and-error guesswork.
The Contender
You’ve been competing for a while and every now and then your name gets called. Maybe you even crack the top 10 overall, but the Grand Championship always seems just out of reach. These courses dig deeper, showing you how to refine your flavor profiles, lock in tenderness and build the kind of consistency that turns occasional calls into GC walks.
Meet Your Instructor: Champion Pitmaster Christie Vanover
Christie, the head cook for Team Girls Can Grill, has competed in nearly 50 contests, earning 4 Grand Championships, 1 Reserve Grand Championship and more than 80 top 10 calls.
But it wasn’t always that way. In her early years, calls were rare and inconsistent. Through relentless practice, smart strategy and learning how to truly cook for the judges, Christie transformed her game.
Her biggest breakthrough? Earning a spot at The Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue where she placed 5th in brisket among the best teams in the world.
Christie is also a certified BBQ judge who has judged prestigious events including the American Royal and The Jack. Her unique perspective as both a competitor and judge gives her inside knowledge of exactly what wins.
Now Christie is sharing her exact playbook so you can shortcut the learning curve, avoid costly mistakes and make the leap from “also competing” to consistently walking.
